Volume 3 Issue 11
November 2010
Some say, "It's Spring". Personally I'm not so sure. I had a 2200 litre water tank installed to collect off the small garage roof just four days ago and already it's full. Looking back, we've had our full quota of rainy rallies. Looking forward, the law of averages dictates that Nagambie MUST be fine and sunny. One thing's for sure, you can bet the house on Glenrowan being warm in January! Thank goodness the weather is yet to dampen our collective spirits even though it has muddied our vans in transit and broken an ankle in 2009. I don't know whether we're tough or got kangaroos in the top paddock for turning up month after month, but we have had fun. Our Christmas Party Rally this month will be the icing on the cake. Don't miss it.
I've been toying with the idea of mounting a pair of metal boxes on my Lifestyle's rear bumper, one each side of the spare wheel. JC and I spotted a Princeton at Darwin with such an addition. They looked smart and properly braced we thought it would be OK. Just to carry the annex in, you understand. Nothing very heavy. However I changed my mind after chatting with Alan Bell about it. The Princeton's rear bumper is wider, further away from the van's rear and stronger than the Lifestyle's, giving better centre balance and support along the length and width of the box. Alan advised that the extra weight at the back could cause strain and stress problems and didn't recommend it at all. Respecting his knowledge of these things, I've decided not to go any further with that project. I would also have had to lift the rear lights or fit an additional set - much too much trouble for me, easy for Brett. If you're planning a structural project with your van, my advice is to ring Alan and get his professional views first. Finally, if it applies, there's the warranty to be concerned about. In Alan's own words: "Coromal's position is clear, they would never approve additions/modifications to the rear bumper bar. While many do such things, both Brett and I have seen many a caravan chassis bent by the addition of weight to the bumper. Remember the static weight is magnified many times over when the caravan is rolling along a road, as the caravan bounces and bumps its way over the uneven road surface."
Geoff and Sheena send regards from SA. They're touring and will
return in time for Nagambie to run the Lotto. He thanks those who stepped up to
do it on his behalf while his dicky knee is recuperating causing their recent intermittent rally attendance. But the knee isn't too bad currently, he says.
Now, they were at Innes National Park at the bottom of York Peninsula the other
day. Sheena was leaning on the handrail admiring the view of a shipwreck on the
beach and then looked down. No guesses as to what Sheena said................
Another encounter of the slippery kind.
Neville, down on the Bellarine with Bev, isn't travelling too well at the moment. He's in good hands though and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. Now Bev, and I know I speak for all Club members, don't forget that we're here to help. Just let us know what we can do to lighten the load.
John and Gill have always wanted to tour Victoria's High Country, so they've planned a tagalong after the Inverloch Rally next February. See the Rally schedule below for a link to the itinerary. It sounds exciting. Let John know if you plan joining the tour. Well done J & G.

a. All the catering is coming along nicely. Just about have everything covered.
Thanks everyone.
b. Don't forget to bring your Christmas tree ornaments and your KK gift.
c. I am also going to try and run the "Guess Who" competition so those that are
interested please bring a photo of yourself as young as you can find. I will put
a box outside my van for photos to go in then I will put them all up on a board
on Saturday morning - all will be revealed after dinner on Saturday night. A
prize for the person who guesses the most people correctly.
d. A big "Special Effort" this month as well - lots of prizes with the proceeds
being donated to The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Reminder "Design our Banner" - not much time left
Calling all
members to find their inner graphic designer and come up with a banner design
for our club. Send your entries - as many as you like - to Ken - via email or a
hard copy to the club post office box or bring your copy to Nagambie. All
entries will be displayed at our Christmas rally ready for a vote. Please
include a preferred size for the banner - somewhere around 3m wide x 1 m high as
an example. Our banner is going to be professionally designed and made by
Coromal headquarters, Western Australia - thank you to Richard Raven and Darren
Raven.

Also, Alan reminds us that "the Bendigo Leisurefest is on the 19th to 21st November and Coromal's Annual Spring Sale finishes soon. Anyone thinking of purchasing a new van in 2011, can avoid the January 1st price increase by placing an order before the end of the calendar year. Lead times are well out into the back end of next year. We still have some stock vacancies in June and July, but there is only a few left."
